eConnect for Microsoft Great Plains – overview for consultant / programmer
eConnect for Microsoft Great Plains was initially intended as a set of tools to enable web developers (eCommerce web sites) use Microsoft Great Plains as back end accounting and order processing info. Also it is extended to serve as your web-front intranet to enable Payroll, Project, AR, AP, GL, etc. You can purchase eConnect in three options (January 2005):
eConnect Core (GL, RM, PM, PR)
eConnect Distribution (SOP, POP, IV)
eConnect Project or
eConnect Total Solution (Core, Distribution, Project)
eConnect pricing obviously differs, especially for product line (Microsoft Great Plains or Microsoft Great Plains standard) and region – you should expect several thousand US dollars investment even for Great Plains Standard. You should also know that different modules/series of eConnect are required in the case of transaction import – you can import and integrate master records with any version of eConnect
We’ll be following up with technical article on Microsoft Great Plains eConnect version 8.0 or 7.5
In this short article we would like you to get first ideas about this customization and integration tool.
eConnect is good if you do one transaction entry from the website.
It may not be good option if you plan on regular data import – in this case you don’t need web-front – you can use either:
Great Plains Integration Manager if the transaction level is low to moderate or
Use direct SQL scripts or stored procedures to quickly integrate huge lots of transactions
